The SEA LIFE Trust are delighted to announce that the QATO Foundation has awarded the Beluga Whale Sanctuary with a generous financial grant – making the foundation a Founding Partner.
The QATO Foundation is a philanthropic giving foundation based in Denmark. The Foundation supports projects that ensure and promote the welfare of animals – especially those living closely together with people. The Foundation contributes towards long-term and long-lasting projects and is pleased to support the Beluga Whale Sanctuary over the period of three years.
Signe Kirk Kristiansen, founder of the QATO Foundation, said:
“I’m pleased that the QATO Foundation is now a partner in this first-of-its-kind project, and that we can contribute to ensuring the welfare and needs of the beluga whales over the coming three years. The sanctuary represents a major leap for captive cetaceans – reintroducing them to a more natural environment with better opportunity to perform their natural behaviours.”
The grant from The QATO Foundation will help secure the long term vision for the sanctuary – ensuring that the welfare and needs of Little White and Little Grey always remain top priority, with their smooth transition into living a fulfilled life in the sanctuary bay.
The 2021 grant from the QATO Foundation will support the building of the intermediate habitat within the sanctuary bay at the Beluga Whale Sanctuary, which is a really important step in the whales’ transition back into the bay.
Audrey Padgett, General Manager of the SEA LIFE TRUST Beluga Whale Sanctuary said:
“We are delighted that the QATO Foundation has trusted us with financial support, and we want to thank the Foundation for supporting our world’s first sanctuary for beluga whales. The impact of receiving such a generous financial donation is huge to us here at the sanctuary, it enables us to move quickly adapting to Little White and Little Grey’s changing needs.”
The SEA LIFE TRUST Beluga Whale Sanctuary needs continuous donations from trusts and foundations, corporate partners, and individuals to continue to care for Little White and Little Grey and all future beluga whales who might call the sanctuary their home.
